An interview with Barbara Byrd conducted by Scott O’Donnell on June 25, 2023. Byrd is the owner of the Hugo, Oklahoma based Carson and Barnes Circus. Byrd grew up in the circus and held a variety of positions throughout her career including performing, management, and ticket selling. She is the third generation of her family to own a circus. Her grandfather Obert Miller formed the Al G. Kelly-Miller Bros. Circus. Her father D.R. Miller owned several shows including the Carson and Barnes Circus.
